Welcome to Season 2, Episode 44! Anthony Christian Ocampo is a professor, sociologist, and author. His latest book is Brown and Gay in LA: The Lives of Immigrant Sons published by NYU Press. It’s a book full of powerful interviews with second generation gay men of Filipino and Latinx descent. Raised in Northeast Los Angeles, Ocampo earned his BA in comparative studies in race and ethnicity. He then earned his MA in modern thought and literature from Stanford University and his MA and PhD in sociology from UCLA. He is now a professor of Sociology at Cal Poly Pomona. Prior to his latest book, he also wrote The Latinos of Asia: How Filipino Americans Break the Rules of Race, and he edited Contemporary Asian America: A Multi-Disciplinary Reader. In our conversation we talk about Brown and Gay in LA as well the impact of media, intersectionality, and so much more! His book comes out on September 21, 2022, and we highly recommend buying it!
